Earlier versions of Hydrosim have been in use by engineers in Southern Africa for well over a decade. The model has been well verified and is the preferred method in many applications. Earlier versions are, however, MS-DOS based and are no longer supported by later versions of Windows. Version 5.2 of Hydrosim is the Windows successor of its MS-DOS based predecessors. Much of the programming code has, of necessity, been re-written although considerable effort has been taken to ensure that the program output is equivalent to earlier versions. In keeping with modern data handling and management trends, a database approach has been implemented in preference to data files as previously used. This approach allows greater flexibility and speed in data manipulation while the program has its own output and graphics routines. One of the advantages of working in a Windows environment is that input and output is easily transportable to other programs. For example, Hydrosim 5 output can be automatically input into Excel spreadsheets for further manipulation or plotting. Hydrographs can be directly plotted out of the system to printer or to a graphics file (JPG/BMP/TIF) for inclusion in reports.
